The Kalighat Kali Temple has a rich history dating back to the 15th century. Legend has it that the temple marks the spot where the toes of Sati, the consort of Lord Shiva, fell during Shiva's cosmic dance. The original temple structure was a small hut, which was later replaced by a larger structure built by King Manasingha in the 16th century. Over the centuries, the temple underwent several renovations and expansions, culminating in its present form.
It’s very pleasant feeling after Dharshan. There shop keepers doing business with devotees they need only money beware of them
Visited during the rainy season, the place was very very poorly managed no proper queue line's. People were breaking queue line and stepping on each other and shouting over in local language if you didn't allow them to move ahead. The shops around the temple will pressurize you to take Prasad from them. The Priests are super corrupt, will ask blunt to give a "donation" to them for 151Rs or 201 Rs, if you want to offer sweets/ prasad to the Goddess, and will drive out if you offer 100Rs or less to the Goddess. The Priests will cover the Goddess not allowing you to see the Goddess until you have given the "donation" to them. A beautiful place corrupted by greedy priests and no queue line system.
It is a shaktipeeth. Roads are in bad condition as construction is going on and a skywalk is also under construction. Mobiles are allowed inside the temple. Prasad shops are located outside the temple where footwears can be kept. Panda behaviour is very bad and they are asking money shamelessly. Providing darshan service and asking money. Even the main pandit inside the main shaktipith is also demanding money without any shame. Avoid Pandas and do darshan by yourself. We did darshan in 15 minutes and have to wait 30 minutes outside due to Sandhya Aarti.
Slowly area is developing, people are coming from different places. Lack of corrupt pandits. Too helpful people, we went their in the morning and have darshan within 30 mins . Jai Maa kali 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
