    History

Construction of Fort William began in 1758 under the direction of Lord Clive, following the British victory in the Battle of Plassey. The fort was named after King William III of England. It served as a symbol of British power and dominance in India for over two centuries. Following India's independence in 1947, the fort was handed over to the Indian Army. Today, it stands as a reminder of India's colonial past and its journey to independence.

Historic place housing buildings that have been built across the span of a couple of centuries. The sheer variety of architectural styles on display is amazing. This place is a well kept heritage site maintained and enhanced by the army's engineers for decades. Currently serving as the headquarters of the Eastern Command, this place is a treat to visit and a refreshing getaway from the chaos of the surrounding city.

Another hidden gem on our tour of Kolkata. Had the opportunity to visit it with friends courtesy of a Military friend. It presently serves as the Head Quarters of Eastern Command. Entry though is restricted and can only with prior permission and approval. It's a must visit destination. It's a very peaceful place in the heart of Kolkata. The place has been maintained absolutely very well
