    History

The history of Jorasanko Thakurbari dates back to the 18th century when the Tagore family, prominent Zamindars (landlords), established their residence here. The house witnessed the birth, life, and death of Rabindranath Tagore, who was born here in 1861. It was within these walls that Tagore penned his literary masterpieces, composed soulful songs, and nurtured his artistic endeavors. After his death in 1941, the house was converted into a museum to preserve his legacy and inspire future generations.

This is a historical place, home town of the great (poet and writer) Rabindranath Tagore. Need to buy tickets before enter and extra money for taking pictures but they don’t allow people to take pictures inside of the rooms. So you can only take pictures inside the garden. In this place you will able to see the life footprint of Rabindranath Tagore, the things he used to use and those gifts given by Foreign people.

As a Bengali I just love this place. A security check is not good. It is a heritage site of Kolkata. So many global tourists come here. Most of the Security personnel were busy with their chit chat. Few are different they guide properly. But such places need more professionals. I visited 22se Srabon, on the death anniversary of R. N. Tagore. Not wheelchairs friendly.
