Mysore Zoo was established in 1892 by Maharaja Chamarajendra Wadiyar X and initially spanned a modest 10 acres. It was originally intended as a private collection of animals for the royal family. Under the guidance of German landscaper and horticulturist, G.H. Krumbeigal, the zoo expanded and evolved into a public institution. Over the years, the zoo has played a significant role in wildlife conservation and research. It has successfully bred several endangered species, contributing to their preservation. The zoo's commitment to education and awareness has made it a valuable resource for the community and a popular tourist attraction.
A nice place to spend a day . Wear comfortable footwear because you will need to walk a lot .. lose clothes are proffered because you are gonna sweat due to a lot of walking . Always carry a bottle of water since there are no shops inside the zoo to buy water . Carry an additional bottle too .. you are definitely going to be thirsty. The entry tickets are rs.50 per person and additionally , you can buy the buggy tickets . The compete buggy ride is Almost an hour and they do not hurry you . They give you sufficient time to view and reach the time . There are a wide range of animals and birds . There is no restriction in clicking photos too . Please do not feed animals is the only condition ..
The zoo is one of the best I’ve been too. Very clean. Animals look well taken care off. However, I’m not an advocate of jailing animals in cages for humans to come see them. It is indeed a great education for most people who will never be able to travel the world to see these animals in their native homes. The bird cages need to become bigger I feel. But the variety of birds, snakes and the bigger animals is very good. Great experience at the zoo. For only Rs 100 entry this zoo is a steal deal. Corporate companies have sponsored many of the animals and hence the zoo may not need to charge exorbitant fees to the common man in order to upkeep the zoo and its expenses. Kudos to Infosys ltd and the other responsible corporates for doing the right thing for our animal friends.
One of the finest zoos I've visited, this place stands out as one of the best in the country. It's an excellent destination for children to explore and learn about wildlife. The zoo boasts a diverse range of animals including herbivores, carnivores, reptiles and more. With an entry fee of 100 rupees per person, it offers great value. The expansive grounds cover approximately 3-4 kilometers of pathways, so plan to spend around 2-3 hours to fully explore the zoo. The facilities are well-maintained, with conveniently located water points and restrooms throughout. Overall, it's a fantastic place for a family outing and a must-visit for wildlife enthusiasts.
