    History

St. Philomena's Church was built in 1936 under the patronage of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. It was designed by French architect Daly in a Neo-Gothic style inspired by the Cologne Cathedral in Germany. The church stands on the site of an older church, also dedicated to St. Philomena. The Maharaja's devotion to St. Philomena led to the construction of this grand cathedral, which has since become an integral part of Mysore's history. The church's construction reflects the blend of European architectural styles with local craftsmanship prevalent during the period. It serves as a testament to the city's historical connections and the enduring legacy of its rulers.

Here's my recent experience visiting St. Philomena's Cathedral with my family of 6 in November: Pros: • Absolutely stunning architecture and location. • Perfect for photography - every angle looks spectacular. • Surprisingly uncrowded even on weekends. • Well-maintained and clean interiors. • Even during Mass, the church felt spacious and comfortable. Cons: • Limited parking space. • Lack of proper ventilation inside My advice: St. Philomena's Cathedral is definitely worth a visit while you're in Mysore. Even though weekdays might be less crowded, it's perfectly fine to visit on weekends too. I'm looking forward to visiting again on my next trip to Mysore.
