The Folk Lore Museum in Mysore was established in 1968 under the patronage of Professor M. Venkateshwaran, a renowned folklorist. His vision was to create a dedicated space for the preservation and study of Karnataka's folk traditions. The museum began with a modest collection of artifacts donated by Professor Venkateshwaran himself, and it has grown significantly over the decades thanks to contributions from various individuals and organizations. Initially housed in a small building, the museum was later moved to its current location on the Manasagangotri campus, providing it with a more spacious and accessible setting. The museum continues to play a vital role in promoting awareness and appreciation of Karnataka's folk culture through exhibitions, research, and educational programs.
Currently, the museum is closed till Feb2027. excellent museum inside Mysore University campus. They should charge nominal amount atleast to maintain building which is in bad shape now. 3 sections are there. photography is not allowed. management should rethink on this so that visitors can preserve memories better. worldwide, photography allowed inside the museum.
I could not enter the museum as it was temporarily closed for repair. This place is inside University of Mysore and I loved the beautiful campus that they have. And inside this campus, resides this palace of your dreams.
