Established in 1863 as the 'Oudh Provincial Museum,' the State Museum Lucknow initially housed a collection of artifacts from the Awadh region. Over time, its collection expanded significantly, encompassing artifacts from across India and beyond. The museum's present building, constructed in the early 20th century, reflects a blend of architectural styles, showcasing elements of Indo-Saracenic and European influences. It has played a vital role in preserving and promoting India's cultural heritage, serving as a center for research, education, and public engagement. The museum continues to evolve, incorporating modern exhibition techniques and expanding its collection to reflect the ongoing discoveries and research in various fields.
Quite an interesting place for the history lovers and I really appreciate the way the authorities have maintained the gallery. It can be modified more. But the other gallery was closed don't know the reason why. Though this state museum is closed on second Sundays it's one of the nice places to go with family, friends or solo
Must visit place for museum , history and art lovers.. i have been to multiple museums.. this is not so great.. but this one is focused more on awadh culture.. hence mat be the best place to know avadh culture.. As it is located inside the zoo campus, please look for zoo parking if in case you are using mlgoogle maps. Otherwise it will show some wrong place... 3000 years old mummy... I have seen a mummy in kolkata museum .. but photography was prohibited there.. in this museum i took photos of the mummy... Zoo entry fees and museum entry fees are different.. same museum entry ticket can be used for other museums nearby.. There is a folk art museum and another separate building for british statues.. do visit them as well.. Lack of air conditioning in alll the places... Some plaCes are still under construction... Photography is restricted in many places..
The museum has got some amazing artifacts, collection of historical monuments, mummy, an airforce aircraft and many more, I really recommend to visit such an amazing place at a very reasonable cost which is inside the lucknow zoo. A must visit whenever visiting lucknow.
