The Rumi Darwaza was built in 1784 by Nawab Asaf-Ud-Daula, the fourth Nawab of Awadh, during a period of severe famine. The construction project served as a means of providing employment to the local population. Inspired by the Sublime Porte (Bab-ı Hümayun) in Istanbul, it's designed in the Awadhi style, a distinctive blend of Mughal, Persian, and Rajput influences. Initially conceived as an entrance to the city, it later became part of the Asafi Imambara complex. It has survived various historical events and stands as a testament to the city's resilience and architectural brilliance.
