The Husainabad Clock Tower was constructed in 1881 by Nawab Nasir-ud-din Haider, the King of Awadh, to commemorate the visit of Queen Victoria's son, Prince Albert Victor, to Lucknow. It was designed by Roskell Payne, a renowned British architect. The tower was built at a cost of Rs. 1.75 lakhs, a significant sum at the time. Its design was inspired by the Big Ben in London, but incorporates elements of local architectural styles. Over the years, the clock tower has become an iconic symbol of Lucknow and a testament to the city's rich history.

The Clock Tower in Lucknow is a beautiful landmark that captures the essence of the city’s history. The architecture is stunning, and it’s a great spot for photography. However, while the surrounding area is generally well-maintained, I noticed some litter that detracted from its charm. Overall, it’s a must-visit for anyone in Lucknow, but a bit more attention to cleanliness would elevate the experience.
Though I didn’t explore the Clock Tower (Ghanta Ghar) fully as I was heading towards Bara Imambara, I did get a chance to admire it from afar, and it was undeniably beautiful. Standing tall and majestic, the tower is a perfect example of architectural elegance and adds to the historical charm of the area. What caught my eye even more was the surrounding park. The lush greenery combined with the beautifully designed structures nearby created a surreal and calming scene. It’s the kind of place where you can simply sit and soak in the beauty or take some amazing pictures — which, of course, I did! Overall, the Clock Tower and its surroundings make for a wonderful spot for sightseeing, whether you’re with family or friends. Even from a distance, it’s a sight worth admiring and adds a lot to Lucknow’s cultural and architectural appeal. A great addition to any visit to the area!
"Today, I had the privilege of exploring the magnificent Bara Imambara, a timeless symbol of Lucknow's rich history and culture. From its intricate architecture to the fascinating stories hidden within its walls, every moment spent here felt like a journey back in time. Truly, a place where heritage comes alive."
Bada imambara, rumi darwaza all near by. The clock is not working that’s the sad part of it. But it’s still as beautiful as any historical monument. The entire premises is not quiet but spread over. One can seat under trees and spend their quality time with books, songs or writing. The food street is on other side.
