    History

The Udayagiri and Khandagiri Caves date back to the 2nd century BCE, built during the reign of King Kharavela of the Mahameghavahana dynasty. These caves served as residential and meditative spaces for Jain monks. The Hathigumpha inscription in Udayagiri, written in Brahmi script, provides valuable insights into King Kharavela's reign and military achievements. The caves showcase a blend of Jain and Hindu influences, reflecting the religious landscape of the time. Over the centuries, these caves have witnessed the rise and fall of empires, remaining as silent witnesses to the passage of time. Their historical significance and architectural beauty continue to attract visitors and scholars alike, preserving a tangible link to India's rich past.

Now a tourist place but they are originally rock cut jain temples. Very beautiful statues engraved in stones are there. Food and amenities stores available nearby. In 20 rupees, one can visit both caves. Neatly maintained place.

Good place to visit.A very beautiful Jain temple is on the hill. The ticket price is 20 for both the hills. There is no ticket for children below 15 years. You can see So many caves carved out of rocks. Visit before 5 pm because the temple will be closed.

Ticket price for udayagiri and khandagiri hills is Rs 25/- per person. I suggest you to pay through online to get rs 5 discount. Recommend to carry water bottle as you have to climb both hills and wear shoes for safety. The atmosphere is very peaceful😌 Beware of monkeys 🐒
