Visapur Fort, also known as Visapur Qila, shares its history with its twin fort, Lohagad. It was built during the reign of the Bahamani rulers in the 18th century. In 1660, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured the fort. However, it was later captured by the Mughals. In 1713, Balaji Vishwanath Peshwa recaptured it. Visapur played a crucial role in guarding Lohagad. In 1818, during the Third Anglo-Maratha War, the British captured Visapur, leading to the fall of Lohagad as well. The British destroyed most of the structures on Visapur to prevent it from being used as a strategic point against them.
