Initially spanning 85.92 sq km, it was later expanded to encompass 344.44 sq km, including the adjacent Tholpetty and Muthanga ranges. The sanctuary's rich history is intertwined with the indigenous communities who have coexisted with nature for generations. Over the years, the sanctuary has played a vital role in preserving the region's unique biodiversity and promoting ecological balance. Its ongoing conservation efforts continue to protect endangered species and maintain the integrity of this natural treasure.
We went there for the afternoon slot. The online thing was not working. They open the ticket counter only at 3 pm. There was moderate crowd at the place. The Jeep tickets were over by the time i reached the counter. We got only the bus. They wait till the bus is full before they start. We started only at 4. Unfortunately we couldn't witness anything significantly. We saw couple of elephants and one was with a human. We spotted few deers and peacocks. That was it. It takes almost an hour. The bus is good but Jeep would be better. Jeep costs 2000 Rs and for bus its 375 for adults and half for kids. Some people slept in the bus. So you need to be lucky to spot some wildlife.
Had a wonderful time in bus safari.. online ticket booking has started so could not get Jeep safari as everything was booked. We reached safari point around 7 Am while comimg from Bangalore. Our bad luck except elephant, deer and peecock ee could not see any other animal.. Overall not great experience. Jeep safari was costing 1500 and in Bus safari 350 per adult and 175 for kid. In jeep max 10 people can be accomodated. Toilets are available at ticket counter and it were neat and clean.. u can have some snacks in the shop near the ticket counter.
An experience worth checking out. You however have to arrive early and stand in line for the ticketing counter as you cannot prebook. We arrived an hour early and managed to get tickets towards a jeep safari. The guides are very friendly and knowledgeable. They spot everything for you and stop the vehicle when you do to take photos. Take professional cameras is chargeable but at nominal prices. They have limited jeeps as per a court order so it’s best to arrive early for tickets.
