It is a famous pilgrim center in north Kerala and also one of the popular religious places to visit in Wayanad. Popularly known as ' Our Lady of Lourdes ' Church, Pallikkunnu Church was dedicated to Lourdes Matha. It was established by a French priest Fr. Jefreno in 1908 in European style. The church has a mesmerizing green surroundings and the calmness and serenity of the surroundings coupled with its peculiar architecture adds to its charm. An interesting aspect of this church is that it has several rituals and practices similar to those prevalent in Hindu temples. The annual festival of the church is celebrated for 3 days starting from 10th February every year and it draws large number of devotees from other parts of Kerala, as well as outside. I recently visited Lourd Matha Church and had a beautiful experience. The perpetual adoration created a serene and peaceful atmosphere, making it a perfect place for prayer that lasted over an hour. The ambiance was truly great. However, I was a bit disappointed when I visited the religious article shop. I purchased two rosary rings, and each one cost 20/-. The pricing seemed shockingly high, and I believe the church-run shop should reconsider its pricing to align with moral standards. Despite this, the overall experience at Lourd Matha Church was memorable and spiritually uplifting.
