Murudeshwar Beach's history is intertwined with the Murudeshwar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to legend, the demon king Ravana, after obtaining the Atma-Linga from Lord Shiva, was tricked by Lord Ganesha into placing it on the ground in Murudeshwar. Ravana, enraged, tried to destroy the linga, scattering its pieces across the region. The cloth covering the linga landed in Murudeshwar, where the temple now stands. The beach has since become a significant pilgrimage site and a popular tourist destination.
