Established in 1965, in the aftermath of the 1962 Indo-China War, the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering was conceived to instill courage, confidence, and patriotism in the youth of India. Named after the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, the institute aimed to promote mountaineering as a means of character building and adventure. Over the years, NIM has trained thousands of mountaineers, including many who have summited Mount Everest and other challenging peaks around the world. It has played a significant role in developing mountaineering infrastructure and expertise in India. The institute has also conducted numerous expeditions and rescue operations, solidifying its reputation as a leading center for mountaineering excellence.
