Chilla Wildlife Sanctuary

Originally established as a hunting reserve, Chilla Wildlife Sanctuary was later converted into a protected area to conserve its rich biodiversity. In 1983, it was merged with Motichur and Rajaji sanctuaries to form Rajaji National Park. The area has a long history of human-wildlife interaction, with local communities traditionally relying on the forest resources. The establishment of the sanctuary aimed to balance conservation efforts with the needs of the local population. Over the years, the sanctuary has faced challenges such as poaching and habitat loss, but continuous conservation efforts have helped to maintain its ecological integrity and protect its wildlife populations.
