Rani Mahal was constructed in the latter half of the 18th century. It gained prominence as the residence of Rani Lakshmibai after she married Maharaja Gangadhar Rao Newalkar, the ruler of Jhansi. The palace witnessed significant events during the 1857 Indian Rebellion, as Rani Lakshmibai used it as a strategic base to resist the British forces. After the queen's martyrdom in 1858, the palace fell into the hands of the British. Over time, it suffered damage and neglect. However, in later years, efforts were made to preserve and restore the palace as a tribute to Rani Lakshmibai's bravery and legacy. Today, it stands as a monument to her courage and a reminder of India's struggle for independence.
