The Government Botanical Garden in Ooty was established in 1848 by the Marquis of Tweeddale. It was designed by William Graham McIvor, who played a crucial role in introducing various exotic plant species to the garden. Initially, the garden served as a source of vegetables for the British residents of Ooty. Over time, it evolved into a major tourist attraction and a center for botanical research. The garden has witnessed several expansions and renovations throughout its history, adding to its diverse collection of plants and enhancing its aesthetic appeal. Today, it stands as a testament to the vision and efforts of those who contributed to its creation and preservation.
