Emerald Lake, originally known as 'Silent Valley Lake,' gained prominence in the early 20th century as a popular spot for the British during their colonial rule in India. The lake's serene environment and stunning natural beauty made it a favored destination for picnics and recreational activities. Over time, the lake became known as Emerald Lake due to the striking emerald green color of its waters. The surrounding area, once sparsely populated, gradually developed into a tourist destination, with facilities and accommodations built to cater to the growing number of visitors. Today, Emerald Lake remains a cherished destination, attracting tourists and locals alike who seek solace in its natural splendor.
The beauty of the lake depends on the season time. Sometimes, there will be minimum water available. Roads are quite narrow and have to be careful while driving. To explore the beauty of the lake, have to waddle around the lawn. Avoid visiting the lake during the summer season as there are limited water and huge crowd.
Beautiful place! Located just 20 km from Ooty town, I visited in October and experienced a serene climate.
I have visited in October.Breathtaking view point. The location is around 15-20km from Ooty but worth a visit.
Don’t get carried away by the pictures. There is nothing as such blue water. We went in the month of July and to our shock we just saw muddy water in the dam. Wasted almost an hour to reach there but we were disappointed.
