The history of Sri Yathothkari Perumal Temple is deeply rooted in Vaishnavism. It is believed to have been built during the Pallava dynasty and later expanded by the Cholas and Vijayanagara kings. The temple finds mention in the Divya Prabandham, the collection of works by the Alvar saints. Legend says that Poigai Alvar, one of the first three Alvars, was born near this temple. The temple's location is said to be the birthplace of the first 'Andhadhi', a form of Tamil poetry. Over centuries, the temple has undergone renovations, preserving its rich heritage and spiritual significance.
