Top Slip

Top Slip's history is intertwined with the timber industry during the British Raj. It served as a crucial logging camp for extracting valuable timber from the Anamalai forests. Elephants were extensively used to transport the logs down the hills, showcasing their strength and intelligence. The name 'Top Slip' is believed to have originated from the practice of slipping logs down the slopes to the plains below. Over time, with increasing awareness about conservation, logging activities were gradually phased out, and the focus shifted towards wildlife preservation and eco-tourism. The area was declared a wildlife sanctuary and later became part of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve. Today, Top Slip stands as a testament to the transition from resource exploitation to conservation, offering visitors a glimpse into its past while promoting sustainable tourism.
