Founded in 1826 during the French colonial era, the Botanical Garden in Puducherry initially served as a repository for exotic plant species from around the world. Its early focus was on economic botany, experimenting with various crops and introducing new agricultural practices to the region. Over time, the garden evolved into a center for botanical research and education, playing a crucial role in preserving and showcasing the rich biodiversity of the Indian subcontinent. The garden's layout and design reflect its French colonial heritage, with geometrically arranged flowerbeds and tree-lined avenues. Today, the Botanical Garden stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of botanical exploration and conservation, offering visitors a glimpse into the fascinating world of plants and their historical significance.

This place is not well maintained. The only highlight is the toy train ride which is quite reasonable but too short. Apart from it the park is not maintained properly and there is stagnant water and loads of mosquitoes.
Nice place to see. The small toy train was the centre of attraction. It took 15 mins for the ride and the charge was reasonable of Rs.20. I enjoyed the ride. There were too many trees so the atmosphere was pleasant.

Loved the greenery very much. I went on Monday morning, so less number of people. The garden looks beautiful. On weekends train ride, musical fountain like attractions are available. Green house, tree house etc are also there. Nice and beautiful place to hang out.
