Promenade Beach's history dates back to the French colonial era in the 18th century. The French transformed this coastal area into a bustling promenade, constructing a pier and several colonial buildings. The iconic Gandhi statue, erected in 1965, further enhanced the historical significance of the place. Over the years, the beach has witnessed significant transformations, becoming a symbol of Puducherry's rich cultural heritage and a testament to its French colonial past.
The beach was well maintained, compared to the last visit the water reached rock walking in beach sand not possible. Heavy crowd due to the weekend. Good place to chill out
Visited the beach with family, and it was totally rejuvenating with the morning sunrise, whereas it was fun in the evening. The beach simply transforms you and gives you the perspective of the enormity of Planet Earth. Morning was so beautiful and transient.
Clean water beach and a nice place to chill. Well connected to the heart of Pondicherry, so a bit mainstream and very crowded on weekends. Nevertheless offers an amazing sunrise view and refreshing evenings
Disheartened to see such a beautiful place is getting filthy day by day. The shore is littering with garbage and plastics. The authorities need to plan to clean the beach and maintain it's beauty. Do not want to tag this into another filthy beach like lighthouse beach.
