Established in 1957 as a game reserve, Umred Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary gained prominence with the launch of Project Tiger in 1972. Its inclusion in the project aimed to conserve and increase the dwindling tiger population. The sanctuary's success in tiger conservation has led to its recognition as an important tiger reserve in India. Over the years, the sanctuary has expanded its focus to encompass the protection of other wildlife species and their habitat, contributing to the overall biodiversity of the region. The sanctuary's history reflects a commitment to conservation and sustainable tourism, ensuring its ecological integrity for future generations.
Shut this sanctuary right away. The drivers and guides are totally inexperienced. Because of 14 drivers and guides, we would've lost our lives. My kids got severely injured and there is no emergency medical facility.
The overall experience was good. Avoiding the unhygienic washroom, the trip was good. Toilets need to be clean for public which is not the usual scene in India unfortunately.
