    History

Mani Bhavan, originally a private residence, became Gandhi's Mumbai headquarters from 1917 to 1934. It was from here that he launched several key movements including the Non-Cooperation Movement, the Satyagraha Movement, and the Khadi Movement. The building witnessed numerous historical events, including the Round Table Conference discussions and Gandhi's fasts against untouchability. After Gandhi's assassination, there was a growing demand to preserve Mani Bhavan as a memorial. In 1955, the Mani Bhavan Gandhi Sangrahalaya Trust was established, and the building was converted into a museum dedicated to his life and work. Today, it stands as a testament to Gandhi's legacy and continues to inspire generations with his message of peace and nonviolence.
