Originally the hunting grounds of the Scindia royal family of Gwalior, Madhav National Park was established in 1958. The park derives its name from Madho Rao Scindia, the Maharaja of Gwalior. The dense forests and abundant wildlife made it a favorite destination for royal hunts. The George Castle, built by Jivaji Rao Scindia in 1911, was intended as a hunting lodge for King George V, although he never actually stayed there. After independence, the area was designated as a national park to protect its rich biodiversity. Conservation efforts have focused on preserving the natural habitat and increasing the population of various animal species. Today, Madhav National Park stands as a testament to the importance of wildlife conservation and serves as a reminder of its royal past. The park continues to attract visitors from across the globe, eager to experience its natural beauty and historical significance.
