Gavi's history is intertwined with the Periyar Tiger Reserve, established in 1978. The area has long been inhabited by indigenous communities, and their traditional knowledge and practices have contributed to the conservation of the region's biodiversity. Gavi's potential as an eco-tourism destination was recognized in the late 20th century by the Kerala Forest Development Corporation (KFDC), which initiated sustainable tourism projects to promote the area while preserving its natural heritage. Gavi's popularity has grown steadily, attracting visitors seeking an immersive nature experience.
Visited Gavi recently, and it was an amazing experience! Nestled in the lush greenery of Kerala, this place is a paradise for nature lovers. The drive itself is a treat, with winding roads through dense forests and breathtaking views. You truly feel like you’re entering a world untouched by the chaos of the city. The highlight for me was the boat ride on the serene Gavi lake. It’s so peaceful and surrounded by towering trees – perfect for some stunning pictures. We also went trekking, guided by a local expert who shared fascinating stories about the flora and fauna. If you’re lucky, you might spot some wildlife – we saw a couple of elephants from a distance, which was thrilling! The food was simple but delicious, with authentic Kerala flavors. The staff were super friendly and made us feel at home. I’d recommend staying overnight if possible – the early morning mist and chirping birds are an experience you shouldn’t miss. Just a heads-up: Gavi is an eco-tourism destination, so it’s best to carry reusable water bottles and avoid plastic. Also, phone connectivity is limited, but that’s honestly a blessing here. Overall, Gavi is perfect for anyone looking to disconnect and immerse themselves in nature. Highly recommend it if you’re planning a peaceful getaway. Would love to visit again!
I had an amazing day at Gavi National Park, and I highly recommend the day package for anyone looking to experience the raw beauty of Kerala’s wilderness. The package was well-organized, starting with a scenic drive through the lush forests and winding roads that set the tone for a day full of adventure. The day package included a guided trek through the verdant trails of the park, where we were lucky to spot various wildlife, including exotic birds and playful langurs. Our guide (Vishnu Kumar) was knowledgeable and shared fascinating insights about the flora and fauna, making the experience educational and engaging. The highlight was the stunning view of Sabrimala, which provided a serene backdrop perfect for photography. We were also treated to a simple yet delicious traditional Breakfast and Lunch (Included in the package) that added to the authentic experience. The boat ride on the crystal-clear waters of the Gavi reservoir was both peaceful and picturesque, allowing us to fully appreciate the natural splendor around us. They took us to a Waterfall and we spent around 1 hr and then using the same boat we returned back. Overall, Gavi National Park is a must-visit for nature lovers and adventure seekers. The day package is well worth it, offering a blend of exploration, relaxation, and unforgettable views.
