Built in the 14th century under the Vijayanagara Empire, the Virupaksha Temple in Kolar holds immense historical significance. It was a prominent center of worship and pilgrimage during its time and witnessed the patronage of various Vijayanagara rulers. The temple's architecture reflects the empire's artistic and architectural prowess, with influences from earlier Chola and Hoysala styles. Despite facing invasions and the decline of the Vijayanagara Empire, the temple remains remarkably well-preserved, serving as a testament to its enduring legacy.
One of the oldest Shiva temples in Kolar district situated near Mulabagal Taluk. The temple is really beautiful and dates back to 1000 Years. But our foolish government has forgotten this beautiful temple and have scrapped it. It needs a lot of maintenance and is such a beautiful attraction for Shiva Devotees. The main attraction is the Shiva Linga which is Atma Linga. The Linga changes its colour 3 times a day. There's a small rectangular pit in front of the deity and the priest asks you to take a look at the positive energy from the Atma Linga. The priest can be contacted from the board nearby and is really good. Overall a very good temple to visit in Kolar district and needs attention!
Virupaksha temple, Mulbagal, Karnataka, is located 34 km east of Kolar. It was built in 14th century CE by Vijayanagara rulers. The temple interestingly has 2 Shivlingas and 2 Nandis in Garbhagriha – Virupaskha linga, installed by sage Atri in puranic times, and the Atma linga – one in front of the other. Walls have inscriptions dating from 1481 CE. The temple is elaborate with carvings and extensive stone work. Another attraction here is the Bagulamukhi Devi temple, said to have been established by King Vikramaaditya. The stepwell and Kalyana mandapa are in a reasonably good shape, though the whole temple complex and the fort around wears a neglected look.
It's an ancient Shiva temple located in mulbagal, it's approximately 8km from the mulbagal town, History & Architecture are interesting but low maintenance. There is no proper maintenance, we can notice and evident too. Lord Shiva Linga is here is unique rarely you can find this type of linga where it changes the color red, white and yellow.
Very old and amazing temple. So peaceful and calm surroundings. Loved the ride from Bangalore through the amazing landscapes of Kolar. A very beautiful place to go.
