The history of Bangaru Tirupati Temple is believed to date back to the Chola period. Legend has it that the temple was built by a Chola king who was cured of a serious illness after praying to Lord Venkateswara. The golden vimana, a prominent feature of the temple, is said to have been gilded with gold by the Vijayanagara emperor, Krishnadevaraya.
