Established in 1955 as a wildlife sanctuary, Nagarhole was upgraded to a national park in 1988 and later became part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park's name, meaning "snake river," derives from the winding Kabini River that flows through it. Historically, Nagarhole served as a hunting ground for the Maharajas of Mysore. Post-independence, conservation efforts intensified, leading to the successful preservation of its diverse flora and fauna. The park has played a crucial role in Project Tiger, contributing significantly to the conservation of the endangered Bengal tiger. Today, Nagarhole stands as a testament to India's commitment to wildlife protection and offers a unique glimpse into the country's natural heritage.
Another hidden gem for adventure and wildlife enthusiasts.. While there is no certainty about the thrilling encounter with a majestic tiger, the ecosystem and choice of accommodation options will offer visitors with a truly memorable stay experience. Loved the trails, and wonderful environments of the park.
The forest is beautiful. The landscapes are beautiful and the drive through the forest is serene. There is a huge lineage of teak wood trees. We took the Safari at Nanchi gate and we were lucky to spot 2 tigers who crossed the road right in front of us. Tigers here are more orange as compared to the Bandipur ones and of course very majestic. We also spotted Elephant family, pack of foxes, bison, lot of peacocks and deers. Overall I highly recommend their bus safari! We did the 7.30 am one. Budget friendly and lot of spotting!

We were fortunate enough to spot several tigers, deer, and a variety of birds during our safari. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and provided insightful information about the flora and fauna of the reserve. The park is well-maintained, and the staff ensures that the wildlife is protected while offering an enjoyable experience for visitors.
