Abbey Falls is believed to have been named after a private estate owned by a British officer during the colonial era. The estate was later converted into a coffee plantation, and the falls became a popular spot for the local residents. Over time, the falls gained recognition as a tourist destination, attracting visitors from across the country and the world. The falls are now managed by the Karnataka Forest Department, and efforts are being made to preserve the natural beauty of the area. The history of Abbey Falls is intertwined with the history of Kodagu itself, reflecting the region's rich cultural heritage and natural splendor.

It was great experience visiting Abbey falls, though it was too crowded and didn’t feel like being in nature. Roads were in good condition. For better view try to visit early in morning. There are close to 300steps to reach, benches in between to rest. Given 3 stars because of too much of a rush on busy days and otherwise one of the best places to visit around Madikeri
Neatly maintained and accessible. A good path is made upto the falls that is easy to tread by both young and old. The waterfalls as such was a marvel to watch. Grills are added for safety. Plenty of free car parking available. Nominal ticket rates for entry to falls.
It's a lovely scene of water fall. We can spend around 1 hour here to see this fall. Downward Steps about 100-150 are there to reach the waterfall. There is nominal entry fees around 10-20 rs.
Very good Waterfall! The parking area provided for tourists is also big. Also, the route to the waterfall (steps) is also clean and good. And the way is easy to walk through. And the spot of seeing the waterfall is also good. Near enough keeping in mind the safety of children and our loved ones. In the off season you won't find the waterfall attractive but in the correct season it is very beautiful and attractive. Well, nature is always beautiful. I never find nature to be ugly. Someone just needs beautiful eyes to see the beauty :)
