After actively participating in the social and religious reforms of the Lingayat movement alongside Basavanna, Allama Prabhu, and Akka Mahadevi, Channabasaveshwara sought refuge in Ulavi. He spent his final years here, continuing his teachings and spiritual practices. Legend says he attained 'Aikya' (union with the divine) at this place. The temple has been renovated and expanded over the centuries, with various dynasties contributing to its development.
