The area now encompassing Anshi National Park was historically a dense forest region inhabited by tribal communities. Recognizing the area's ecological significance and the need to protect its biodiversity, the Karnataka government declared it a national park in 1987. Initially, the park faced challenges including poaching and habitat encroachment. Over time, conservation efforts were intensified, and local communities were involved in protecting the forest. In 2007, Anshi National Park was merged with Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary to form the Dandeli Anshi Tiger Reserve, further strengthening conservation efforts and providing a larger protected area for tigers and other wildlife. The reserve has since become a crucial habitat for endangered species and a popular destination for ecotourism.
