The history of Jwalamukhi Temple is steeped in legend and mythology. It is believed that Sati's tongue fell at this spot, making it a powerful Shaktipeeth. The flames are said to have been burning for centuries, even before the temple was built. Legend says that a shepherd first discovered the flames and the location became a place of worship. Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Raja Bhumi Chand contributed significantly to the temple's construction and renovation. Emperor Akbar, after failing to extinguish the flames, offered a golden chhatra (umbrella) as a sign of reverence, though it is said that the gold turned into another metal, which is still present in the temple. The temple continues to be a significant pilgrimage site, attracting devotees with its mystical flames and spiritual significance.
