Aina Mahal was constructed in the 18th century during the reign of Rao Lakhpatji, a ruler of the Kutch region known for his interest in art and architecture. The palace was designed by Ramsinh Malam, a local artisan who had spent 17 years in Europe learning various crafts. The palace was built using local materials, but the design was heavily influenced by European styles. The devastating 2001 Gujarat earthquake caused significant damage to the palace, but it has since been restored to its former glory. Today, Aina Mahal stands as a testament to the artistic and cultural heritage of Kutch and the vision of its rulers. It serves as a museum, preserving the history and artifacts of the region.
