Madhuri Lake was formed as a result of an earthquake in 1971. The earthquake caused landslides that blocked a river, leading to the formation of this beautiful lake. Originally known as Sangetsar Tso, meaning ‘blind lake’ in the Monpa dialect, the lake was renamed Madhuri Lake after the filming of the Bollywood movie 'Koyla' starring Madhuri Dixit. The serene and picturesque location gained popularity after the movie's release, attracting tourists from all over. The lake holds significance for the local Monpa tribe, who consider it a sacred site.
