The history of Gunadala Matha Shrine dates back to 1925 when an Italian missionary, Monsignor Pezzoni, installed a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes on a hill in Gunadala. The site gained popularity, and a small chapel was built in 1927. Over time, it evolved into a significant pilgrimage center. The church was later expanded and renovated to accommodate the growing number of devotees. The annual feast, which is celebrated in February, draws a massive crowd. The shrine stands as a testament to the region's religious diversity and has become an integral part of Vijayawada's cultural landscape.
