    History

The Char Bangla Temples were commissioned by Rani Bhabani, the widow of Raja Ramjivan of Natore, in the 18th century. Rani Bhabani was a devout Hindu and a significant patron of art and architecture. She constructed numerous temples, ghats, and charitable institutions across Bengal. The four Shiva temples were built to honor Lord Shiva and to serve as a center for religious and cultural activities. The terracotta art on the temples reflects the socio-cultural milieu of the time, depicting scenes from Hindu epics, mythological stories, and everyday life. Over the centuries, the temples have stood as a symbol of Rani Bhabani's legacy and the artistic prowess of the region. They have undergone some restoration work to preserve their original splendor, ensuring that future generations can appreciate their historical and artistic value.
