The Durpin Monastery was consecrated in 1976 by Dudjom Rinpoche. It holds significant religious importance for the Tibetan Buddhist community. The monastery's full name, Zang Dhok Palri Phodang, translates to 'Copper Coloured Mountain Glorious Palace'. It houses the Kangyur, a collection of Buddhist scriptures containing 108 volumes that were carried by the 14th Dalai Lama when he fled Tibet. The monastery was built to preserve and promote Tibetan Buddhist culture and teachings. Over the years, it has become a prominent center for Buddhist studies and practice, attracting monks and visitors from around the world. The monastery has undergone renovations and expansions to accommodate the growing number of devotees and tourists.
