Old Digha Sea Beach

Digha's history as a tourist destination dates back to the late 18th century when the British discovered its scenic beauty. Warren Hastings, the first Governor-General of British India, was among the first to recognize Digha's potential as a seaside resort. He even had a bungalow built here. However, it wasn't until the 20th century that Digha truly gained popularity. The development of Old Digha as a tourist spot began in the early 20th century, with the construction of hotels and infrastructure to accommodate visitors. Over time, the beach faced challenges due to coastal erosion, leading to the development of New Digha to cater to the growing influx of tourists. Despite the emergence of New Digha, Old Digha has managed to retain its old-world charm and continues to be a favorite among those seeking a peaceful retreat.
