    History

The Raghunathji Temple is believed to have been established in the 8th century AD by Adi Shankaracharya, a prominent Hindu philosopher and theologian, although some accounts suggest an earlier date. The temple has undergone several renovations and expansions over the centuries, reflecting the patronage of various rulers and devotees. Legend says that Lord Rama meditated at this very spot to absolve himself of the sin of killing Ravana. The temple houses an idol of Lord Rama believed to be self-manifested. The historical significance of Devprayag as a vital point in the Char Dham Yatra route has further enhanced the temple's importance. The temple has witnessed various historical events, including natural calamities, but it has always been rebuilt and restored by the local community and devotees.
