Legend has it that once Nanda Maharaj (Lord Krishna's foster father) desired to bathe in the sacred Ganges. To fulfill his wish, Lord Krishna manifested the Ganges at Govardhan in the form of Manasi Ganga. 'Manasi' means 'from the mind,' signifying that the Ganges appeared from Krishna's mind. It is also believed that all the sacred rivers and water bodies reside within Manasi Ganga. The lake has been a significant pilgrimage site for centuries, attracting devotees and saints. The various ghats and temples around the lake were constructed by different rulers and devotees over time, adding to its historical and architectural significance. The lake has witnessed countless religious ceremonies and events, solidifying its place in Hindu mythology and tradition.
