The Panch Mahal was built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar in the late 16th century as part of the Fatehpur Sikri complex. It is believed that Akbar used this structure for leisure and relaxation. Some historians suggest it served as a place for the ladies of the royal court to enjoy the views and breeze. Its unique design, with 176 intricately carved pillars supporting the five stories, reflects the architectural influences of the time. The pillars were once adorned with jali screens, providing privacy for the royal women. Over time, the screens have disappeared, leaving the pillars exposed. The structure's close proximity to the zenana (women's quarters) supports the theory of its use by the royal ladies. The Panch Mahal stands as a testament to Akbar's architectural vision and the grandeur of the Mughal empire.
