Emperor Akbar commissioned Fatehpur Sikri in 1569 to honor the Sufi saint Sheikh Salim Chisti, who had predicted the birth of his heir, Jahangir. The city was meticulously planned and constructed, showcasing a unique blend of architectural styles. It served as the Mughal capital from 1571 to 1585, a period marked by significant political and cultural developments. However, due to inadequate water supply, the court was eventually moved to Lahore. Despite its short-lived glory, Fatehpur Sikri remains an exceptional example of Mughal urban planning and architectural innovation. The structures within the complex reflect Akbar's vision of religious tolerance and his patronage of art and culture.
