    History

The history of Nageshwarnath Temple is deeply intertwined with the legend of Kush, son of Lord Rama. According to tradition, Kush found a Shiva Lingam in the Saryu River and established the temple. The original structure is believed to have been lost to time, but the temple was rebuilt by various rulers throughout history. The current structure was renovated in the 18th century by the Maratha queen Ahilya Bai Holkar. This temple holds immense significance as it is said to be the only surviving temple from the era of Vikramaditya, who is believed to have rediscovered Ayodhya after a long period of obscurity. Its historical and religious importance makes it a vital part of Ayodhya's cultural heritage.
