The Salar Jung Museum is housed in the erstwhile Dewan Deodi, the residential palace of the Salar Jung family. The museum's collection originated in the possessions of Mir Yousuf Ali Khan, Salar Jung III. The objects now seen in the museum were acquired by him and his forefathers spanning a period of over forty years. After the death of Salar Jung III in 1949, his vast collection of valuable art objects and his library were brought under the Salar Jung Museum Committee. The committee handed over the administration of the museum to the Government of India in 1951. The museum was opened to the public in 1958. It was declared an Institution of National Importance by the Government of India in 1961.
Reserve an entire day for this place. ✨ This museum is huge. If you’re into history art and culture, you have 50 different halls (each hall having a theme like Mughal paintings, modern paintings, glassware, European sections, manuscripts, walking sticks) and you’ll need a hell lot of energy to properly absorb all of it. 🔎📖 Had a wonderful time here however got really tired towards the end. 😮💨
It gives me so much pride knowing that such a wonderful museum exists in India. It is really beautiful and showcases our culture really well. Not only our culture but from all around the world. Tickets were priced ₹50 for adults and ₹20 for children. However, you need to pay an additional ₹50 per phone if you wish to take it inside the museum. There is also a food court in the museum with nice food. Overall it was a good experience.
This is one huge museum, you’ll need atleast half a day to cover all the exhibit halls. Per mobile/camera you need to pay to carry it inside. Good to wear comfortable shoes as lot of walking is required. There are food options inside.
