Kanyakumari Wildlife Sanctuary

Established in 1976, the Kanyakumari Wildlife Sanctuary was created to protect the region's rich biodiversity and natural habitats. The area has historically been a vital corridor for wildlife movement, particularly elephants, between the Western and Eastern Ghats. Before its official designation as a sanctuary, the forests were subject to some degree of logging and agricultural encroachment. The formation of the sanctuary aimed to mitigate these threats and ensure the long-term conservation of the region's unique flora and fauna. Over the years, efforts have been made to improve habitat management, reduce human-wildlife conflict, and promote eco-tourism.
