Sariska's history is intertwined with the royal heritage of Rajasthan. It served as a hunting preserve for the Alwar royal family. The area was declared a sanctuary in 1955 and a tiger reserve in 1978 as part of Project Tiger. Sadly, the tiger population dwindled significantly in the early 2000s due to poaching. A major relocation effort was undertaken to reintroduce tigers into the reserve, and the population has been gradually recovering since then. The presence of ancient temples like the Neelkanth temples within the reserve's core area further highlights the region's rich historical and cultural significance, showcasing a blend of nature and heritage.
