Mehrangarh Fort's history is deeply intertwined with the Rathore clan. Rao Jodha, the clan's chief, laid the foundation in 1459, shifting the capital from Mandore. Legend says the hill was cursed, requiring a human sacrifice to ensure the fort's prosperity. Raja Ram Meghwal volunteered, and he was buried alive within the fort's foundation. In return, his family was promised protection by the Rathores, a promise kept to this day. Over centuries, successive rulers added to the fort's structure, resulting in a blend of architectural styles. The fort witnessed numerous battles and sieges, standing as a symbol of Rajput resilience. It continues to be managed by the royal family of Jodhpur, who have dedicated themselves to its preservation.
