Originally built as a Sanskrit college in the 12th century by Vigraharaja IV, a ruler of the Chauhan dynasty, the structure was later converted into a mosque in 1192 CE by Qutb-ud-Din-Aibak, the founder of the Delhi Sultanate. Legend says that its construction took only two and a half days, hence the name. However, it's more likely that the name refers to a two-and-a-half-day long fair held at the site. The mosque is a testament to the architectural styles of both Hindu and Islamic cultures, showcasing a blend of intricate carvings from the original temple and Islamic calligraphy added during its conversion. Subsequent rulers added to and modified the structure, further solidifying its place in Indian history.
